It is great that Nikon has again seen the opportunity with the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200MM F/2.8E FL ED VR to make a zoom lens in this focal range even better. Nikon has been making lenses with this range for half a century, and the NIKKOR 80-200 f/4.0 was the best zoom lens available in the 1980s. The 70-200/2.8 VR was then canned and replaced by the 70-200/2.8 VR II in 2009. As Nikon introduced and then cancelled each of these successively larger, heavier, more expensive and more feature-laden short-timer models, this extraordinary professional 80-200mm f/2.8 lens has never faltered.

It is most definitely a different lens; it’s 22 elements include one fluorite, one high-refractive, and six ED elements, along with new coatings.

I use the Nikkor AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR wth the T.C. 1.7 ll teleconverter which works extremely well giving me a f/4.8. The Nikkor still focuses very quickly and is still extremely sharp. I use it on my Nikon D500 for birds and wildlife which on a cropped sensor has the equivalent of 510mm of reach.
